20 centuries of culture and history in 70 miles: from Segovia with its Roman aqueduct unique in the world and the Palace and Gardens of the Real Sitio de la Granja, to the Queen Sofia Art Centre. Prehistory is also present in Gredos with the Guisando Bulls.

Duration of travel: 5 days / 4 nights

Day 1

After visiting Madrid, we’ll head east to visit the picturesque village of Chinchón with its charming Plaza Mayor and castle. We’ll then admire the Palace of Aranjuez before finally reaching Toledo. No city is a better example of coexistence among the different cultures in the Middle Ages: Jewish, Muslim and Christian.

Day 2

Today, a guided visit of Toledo: El Greco’s House, the Catedral, the Chapel of Christ of the Light, the Sinagoga del Tránsito, and more. After walking and admiring this World Heritage Site, we’ll continue travelling along the Tajo River towards Talavera de la Reina, where we’ll visit a workshop of this world-famous pottery. On this second night we’ll sleep in a 14th century castle-palace, turned into a beautiful hotel.

Day 3

On our third day we’ll cross the Gredos Mountains, passing by Arenas de San Pedro and El Barco de Avila to enter into the province of Salamanca through its wildest part. Before reaching its magnificent capital, Salamanca, a World Heritage Site, we’ll stop at a private country estate where bullfight bulls are reared. Tonight we’ll rest in a 15th century palace.

 

Day 4

We’ll start the day with a guided visit of Salamanca with its cathedrals, Plaza Mayor, University, Casa de las Conchas, etc. After tasting delicious tapas in its many bars full of students, we’ll continue our journey towards Avila, also a World Heritage site, and there we’ll admire its impressive medieval walls. At dusk we’ll reach Segovia where we’ll spend the night in a 15th century palace.

 

Day 5

We’ll contemplate Segovia’s outstanding Roman aqueduct dating from 90 BC, its fairy-tale Alcázar, its cathedral.... We’ll continue our journey, visiting the Palacio Real de la Granja, the Palacio de Ríofrío, and El Escorial to finally reach Madrid.

Farewell dinner.
