Expressions of twenty centuries of history, the evolution of mankind can be found here at ease and at each step.

Duration of travel: 7 days / 7 nights

Day 1

Departing from Madrid, our first visit will take us to the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains: El Escorial and its Real Monasterio built by King Felipe II. From there we’ll head northwest to discover Avila with its medieval walls, and finally end our day in Salamanca. Both cities are World Heritages sites. We’ll spend our first night in a 15th century palace with a beautiful patio.

Day 2

We’ll spend the second morning with our own guide visiting this attractive city. The two cathedrals, the old University, the beautiful Plaza Mayor, among many other monuments make you understand its World Heritage Site designation. You’ll be free during the afternoon to discover the atmosphere of this city at your own pace. Tonight we’ll enjoy French cuisine in Salamanca’s best restaurant.

Day 3

On our third day, we’ll explore the Sierra de Francia, discovering its villages and people, to end our day in Ciudad Rodrigo where we’ll spend the night in the castle built by Enrique II de Trastámara, now transformed into a luxurious hotel.

Day 4

After visiting this small historic city, we’ll head northeast, leaving behind Renaissance and Plateresque to admire Romanesque. We’ll discover Zamora, Toro and Tordesillas, to finally reach León, where we’ll rest tonight in a former 16th century pilgrim hospital with all the comforts of the 21st century.

Day 5

We’ll start our fifth day visiting León’s cathedral, famous for its stained-glass windows, and the church of San Isidoro. We’ll continue our route, now travelling on the Way of Saint James, and stop along the way to visit some of its monuments. On our fifth night we’ll rest in a lovely hotel which was once a Benedictine Monastery.

Day 6

Today we’ll first visit a 3rd century Roman villa which contains more than 1600 square metres of mosaics. We’ll contemplate Romanesque design in all its glory in Frómista, crossing the Canal de Castilla to finally reach Burgos, where we’ll rest in a luxurious hotel with a medieval tower that belongs to Relais & Chateaux.

Day 7

We’ll start walking through Burgos and after visiting its Gothic cathedral, we’ll head north to enter an area known as Las Merindales, crossing Espinosa de los Monteros, Vivanco, and then we’ll leave Castile to enter the province of Guipúzcoa, towards Bilbao. We will enjoy excellent Basque cuisine here for our farewell dinner.

Tonight we’ll sleep near the Guggenheim Museum in a quiet and luxurious hotel.
